It's actually quite amazing the amount of music you can play with just those 9 simple open chord shapes. Practice them until you have mastered each shape and can move between them freely. This could take you between 1 and 6 months to do depending upon how much talent you have for guitar, the way you practice and the amount of time you practice each day.

2. While you are learning your chords you should also be learning some right hand techniques. It's using the right hand that all your chords will come alive. Concentrate on getting your fingers organized into a team which works well together. Each finger should know which string on your guitar it's responsible for and you should practice so slowly that it all becomes automatic in your mind. Various fingerpicking techniques along with some simple strumming patterns will do wonders for how good your chords sound.

3. Practice very slowly. If you are impatient and try to rush things you'll only end up making lots of mistakes everytime you pick up your guitar. This will have disaterous results later on down the road. In order to be able to play Spanish guitar perfectly and error free you need to practice it perfectly and error free. Practice at a tempo where it is almost impossible for you to make a mistake and only increase your speed on an exercise when you are feeling confident you can do it without increasing the number of mistakes you'll make.
