My Guide For Beginners Learning Flamenco Guitar

As a general rule, flamenco guitar is not the easiest or perhaps the best way for beginners to start playing guitar. This is mainly because flamenco guitar lessons demand that the guitarist is able to perform a variety of challenging technical feats especially where the right hand is concerned and these often take many years to master.

Now there is a way to make complicated music and styles of guitar playing easy to digest (which is what I've done in this course) however to find other examples that replicated what I've done here won't be easy. The problem is that most flamenco teachers assume far too much of students when learning online.

As a general rule you should look for courses that are meant for children to follow even you are an adult. It does not matter that the course material was written for younger children, what matters is that it's going to give you an easier starting point and a more forgiving learning curve.

The Basic Flamenco Guitar Chords

Flamenco uses the same chords as many other style of music but there are some different voicings of those chords which will be important for you to learn and master. Many dominant 7 type chords are used and there are some particularly beautifully dominant b9 resolutions on the V chord when the cadence falls from VI. Learning these classic shapes will give you an instantly classic flamenco effect.

Flamenco Scales

Here you'll need to practice and learn the natural minor scale, the major scale and the harmonic minor scale. All are used in flamenco guitar music

Right Hand Techniques

These will range from strumming patterns where accents are placed upon specific beats and also many fingerstyle techniques.

For best results you'll need to practice each individual technique very slowly and over a sustained period of time. This will allow you to fully master each one so that when it comes to playing actual flamenco music later on you'll have the luxury of being able to forget all about technique and simply concentrate on your performance of the music. This is what real musicians do.
